Show Support
Being fully included in the community is an issue that touches many people.
Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and has the right to full citizenship
in their community. Inclusion allows the community the opportunity to open their
doors to someone they may have not considered hiring or accepting, while
educating them on the benefits they will get from spending time with someone who
is different from themselves. Anyone can make a difference, no matter how big or
small, by learning tolerance and reducing the opportuntity for people to be
excluded based on judgements. You can show your support by accepting someone and
including them as part of your workplace, social circle or family life. You can
offer a smile, a handshake or a moment of your time to learn about someone new.
You can also show support by encouraging others to give people a chance to show
their skills, talents and gifts. Everyone has the ability to become a friend, a
neighbour or a co-worker.
Volunteer
Being part of our community is something we all enjoy as a part of our daily
life. It is something that just happens naturally for us, something we do
without thinking there is any other way to be. This should be the same for
everyone no matter what barriers they face.
Community Living Stratford and Area believes all people should be part of their
community and encourages natural relationships for the people we support.
Volunteers offer a wider social network and the opportunity to build lasting
friendships. Volunteers and the supported person choose who they spend time with
and when. Most importantly, volunteers spend time with new friends! There are a
number of ways you can support someone with your time. You can spend time
building a friendship at a common leisure activity, help someone attend a weekly
or monthly event of their choice, assist them at a volunteer job where support
is needed or just go for lunch or coffee as any two friends would do! Together,
you can decide the activities to do based on what you both enjoy!
Volunteers are students, seniors and anyone in between! To learn more, contact
